Artist Research Paper

Unit I – Color Theory
Medium – Tempera Paint

Learning Targets:
• Students will know how to draw objects to scale from observation.
• Students will know how to use a drawing as a reference for their observation painting.
• Students will know how to mix an appropriate color palette using the primary colors.
• Students will know how and where to apply the appropriate tints and shades.
• Students will know how to paint their subject matter using the color theory of their choice.
• Students will know how to develop a consistent painting style within their artwork.
• Students will know how to use and respect materials in the art room.

Assignment: Select one

Single Subject: Repeat 4x, using Monochromatic & Complimentary
Still Life 3+ Objects & Drapery, using Complimentary
Still Life Up Close 2-3 Objects, using 4-6 Monochromatic Hues
Grouping of Objects using, 6-9 Color Schemes

Unit II – Self Portrait
Medium – Acrylic

Learning Targets:
• Students will know how to draw themselves from observation.
• Students will know how to use a drawing as a reference for their self-portrait painting.
• Students will know how to mix an appropriate color palette using the primary colors.
• Students will know how and where to apply the appropriate tints and shades.
• Students will know how to paint their subject matter using the color theory of their choice.
• Students will know how to develop a consistent painting style within their artwork.
• Students will know how to use and respect materials in the art room.

Unit III -Interior:
Medium – Watercolor

Learning Targets
• I will create a successful artwork by research, practice, implementation, and problem solving.
• I will make five thumbnail sketches of my ideas.
• I can and will draw 8 ½ x 11 sketch of my final idea.
• I will create a watercolor painting that the subject is based around an interior view. Thinks to think about space, windows, reflections and light.

Unit IV – Abstraction
Medium – Your Choice

Learning Targets
I Can…
• Learn about abstract art, the differences between abstract and representational art, terms such as geometric and organic shapes, and a selection of art history on the artist Kandinsky.
• Learn and apply a variety of watercolor painting techniques.
• Apply my knowledge of color to a new independent assignment while learning about abstract art.
• Created an Abstract painting.

Unit V – Personal Voice
Personal voice is a painting based on one’s own thoughts, reflections, and subsequent critical analysis of the material at hand.

Assignment: Personal Voice, Medium – Your Choice
• First, use your research from the artist that inspires you.
• Create at least three sketches/ideas for a painting. Present and discuss with the class.
• Take the feedback from the class and revise.
• Discuss revisions with Mrs. Halker and begin with your chosen medium.
• Cleaned and maintained equipment appropriately
